Start of elections for municipalities and city councils in Lebanon
The first phase of municipal elections in Lebanon begins in the “Mount Lebanon” governorate. The elections are being held after multiple delays since 2016 under tight security measures.
According to the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Mayadeen, the first phase of municipal and city council elections in Lebanon started today, Sunday, in the Mount Lebanon governorate after repeated postponements since 2016. The elections will be held in four phases during May and will cover all Lebanese governorates.
The elections in Mount Lebanon are taking place across six cities: Keserwan, Byblos (Jbeil), Chouf, Aley, and Baabda.Polling stations opened at 7 AM local time following the arrival of election officials.
