Pakistan Closes Its Ports to Indian Ships in Response to New Delhi’s Import Ban
According to a report by the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency and India Today,Pakistan has retaliated against India’s import ban imposed yesterday (Saturday) by closing its ports to Indian ships. The move comes amid escalating tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad following an attack on a group of tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Dawn reported that the decision was made to “safeguard Pakistan’s maritime sovereignty, economic interests, and national security.” The Pakistan Ports and Shipping Authority stated that no vessel flying the Indian flag would be allowed entry into Pakistani ports. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs, which oversees the port authority, also announced that Pakistani ships are barred from entering any Indian ports, with exemptions granted only on a case-by-case basis.
this measure is a direct response to India’s earlier ban on all Pakistani goods entering New Delhi. Customs duties on Pakistani goods had already surged to 200% after the Pulwama attack in 2019.
The April 22 attack at the “Pahalgam” tourist resort in Indian-administered Kashmir killed 26 people, mostly tourists. While India blamed its neighbor for the assault, islamabad denied any involvement but proposed an impartial investigation supervised by a third party into the incident.
Following this event and heightened tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors, their already strained relations have worsened further. Both sides have taken retaliatory measures—including treaty cancellations, airspace closures, and military drills—against each other.
