New York Times Wittkopf remains in charge of negotiations with Iran
The New York Times Reports: Despite Marco Rubio’s New Role as White House National Security Advisor, Trump’s Longtime Friend Steve Witkopf Remains Lead Negotiator with Iran
According to the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and The New York Times, with the appointment of Marco Rubio as the White House’s senior foreign policy advisor (replacing former U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz), he will now oversee the White House’s internal agenda alongside his primary role as U.S.Secretary of State.
The American media outlet noted that despite this change, Donald Trump‘s longtime friend Steve Witkopf remains the lead negotiator responsible for talks aimed at ending conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as reaching an agreement with Iran (regarding sanctions relief negotiations).
Leslie Vinjamuri, Director of the U.S. Program at Chatham House, a London-based research institute, stated that “Rubio” is inclined to align with and follow Trump’s directives.
Marco Rubio, the former Florida senator, has taken a long and unconventional path to his current position in Donald Trump’s second-term management.
Last Thursday, Trump announced that Mike Waltz would step down as National Security Advisor to serve as U.S.Ambassador to the United nations, with Rubio temporarily succeeding him. This decision came weeks after Waltz’s blunder involving a private Signal messaging group—where sensitive information about attacks on Yemen was shared—after he mistakenly added a journalist disliked by Trump to the group!
