IAEA director General Reports Talks with EU Foreign policy Chief on Iran’s Nuclear Program Developments
According to a report by the english section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr news Agency, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced in a post on social media platform X that he held discussions with Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, regarding developments in Iran’s nuclear program.
Grossi stated: “I had an vital conversation with Kaja Kallas about the IAEA’s indispensable role in verifying non-proliferation—including in Iran—and also our support for nuclear safety and security in Ukraine. I am grateful for the EU’s vital assistance in fulfilling our mission.”
Kallas also posted on X yesterday: “To emphasize the EU’s support for diplomacy on Iran’s nuclear issue and de-escalation in the region, I spoke with Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister.”
These talks between Kallas and Araghchi yesterday—followed by her consultations today with Grossi—come as indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear program have been ongoing since late March.
The first round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington took place on April 12 (23 Farvardin) in Muscat, while the second round was held on April 19 (30 Farvardin) in rome, Italy. A third round of negotiations aimed at reaching a nuclear agreement with Iran occured on April 26 (6 Ordibehesht) in oman, attended by U.S. Special Envoy Stephen Witkoff and abbas Araghchi.
A fourth round was scheduled for this Saturday but was postponed due to logistical issues. Badr Al-Busaidi,Oman’s Foreign Minister,announced last Thursday via X: “Due to logistical reasons,we are rescheduling talks between Iran and America that were set for Saturday in Rome. The new date will be announced onc agreed upon.”
The news outlet Axios claimed that Iranian and American negotiators may proceed with a fourth round later this week.
