CNN Ceasefire in Yemen aimed at accelerating talks with Iran
CNN TV network, citing informed sources at the Pentagon, reported that the halt in attacks on Yemen resulted from negotiations mediated by Oman to accelerate talks with Iran.
According to a report by the English section of “webangah News agency” citing Mehr News Agency, a U.S.Defense Department official told CNN on Tuesday that the country’s military had been ordered to stop attacks against Yemen’s armed forces.
The TV network stated that Trump’s remarks today (regarding halting attacks on Yemen’s military) followed extensive diplomatic efforts in recent days between the U.S., Oman, and Yemeni representatives.
Citing informed sources at the Pentagon, the outlet added that the U.S.-Yemeni understanding to refrain from attacking each other aimed to accelerate indirect negotiations related to lifting anti-Iran sanctions.
These sources told CNN that Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy to the region—who also participated in indirect talks between representatives from Tehran and Washington—had worked last week as a mediator to establish a ceasefire with yemeni forces.
Informed sources further noted that these discussions were facilitated through Omani mediation.
Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed: “The Houthis (Yemen’s military) said yesterday they no longer want to fight—this is good news. We will instantly halt airstrikes in Yemen. I accept thier statement that they will stop their attacks, and we decided to immediately end our bombings. They no longer want war and have stated they will no longer blow up ships.”
