Pakistan: At least 5 Indian fighter jets shot down and several soldiers captured
Islamabad Officials Report Downing of Several Fighter Jets Over Pakistani Airspace and Capture of Soldiers.
According too the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and The Self-reliant, Islamabad authorities stated that following the incursion of Indian fighter jets into Pakistani airspace, several aircraft were shot down, and a number of Indian soldiers were taken captive.
Khwaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, told Bloomberg that at least five Indian jets had been downed. He added that Islamabad would “certainly engage in talks with New Delhi” if hostile actions ceased.
“We do not want escalation,” he said.”but if we see further aggression from India, we will be compelled to respond.”
Earlier today, India’s Defense Ministry launched missiles along the border region with Pakistan. The ministry claimed at least nine sites—allegedly used to “plan terrorist attacks against India,” per Indian officials—were targeted.
New Delhi carried out these strikes in retaliation for an April attack on a group of tourists in India-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 people—most of them tourists.
