Amid trade war tensions Washington and Beijing to negotiate next week in Switzerland
U.S. Treasury Secretary Reveals Time and Location of First Washington-Beijing Talks After Ping-pong Tariffs
According to the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency and the New York Post, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besent stated that the first major meeting between Washington and Beijing following the imposition of heavy tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump against China will take place this weekend (Gregorian calendar).
Besent told fox news: “We have agreed to talk. We will finalize the discussion topics on Saturday and Sunday.”
He added: “I sense these talks are aimed at de-escalation rather than a major trade deal because we must reduce tensions before we can move forward.”
The negotiations are set to occur in Switzerland. Currently, Trump’s imposed tariffs on China stand at 145%, while Beijing’s customs duties on imports from Washington are set at 125%.
