America issued an order to expand intelligence gathering operations from Greenland
The American newspaper Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump management has tasked U.S. intelligence agencies with expanding surveillance and data collection on the island of “Greenland.”
According to a report by the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency,Wall Street Journal quoted two informed sources stating that the administration of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has made extensive efforts to gather intelligence related to Greenland to assert dominance over the island. The American newspaper revealed that several senior officials under Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, issued a directive last week confirming expanded intelligence-gathering efforts to agency heads. This indicates they were ordered to acquire more data on Greenland’s independence movement and the U.S. stance regarding resource extraction in this autonomous territory.
Greenland is part of Denmark and has been a decades-long NATO ally.
Gabbard stated: “The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed for aiding government actors who seek to undermine president Trump through political maneuvering and leaking classified information.” She added: “They are breaking the law and undermining our security and democracy.”
James Hewitt, spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council, said the White House “does not comment on intelligence matters,” but reiterated that Trump has been very clear about U.S. concerns regarding Greenland’s security and Arctic interests.
The classified directive also instructed agencies—using tools such as surveillance satellites, dialog intercepts, and field operatives—to identify individuals in Greenland and Denmark who support America’s objectives on the island.
The newspaper noted this order marks one of Trump’s first concrete steps toward fulfilling his repeated ambition to acquire Greenland.
in late March, Trump revealed in an interview with NBC News that he woudl not rule out military force for seizing greenland, emphasizing “nothing is impossible” in this regard. He claimed acquisition could occur without military intervention but did not dismiss it as an option.Trump has long eyed Greenland, Earth’s largest island with broad autonomy—valuing its strategic location and rich mineral resources for America’s interests.Despite repeated overtures from Trump, Danish & Greenlander officials have consistently rejected selling it.**
