According to ‌a report by the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency, Al Jazeera ⁢reported that white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican announced the election ⁣of⁣ a new pope.

The release of white smoke from the chapel’s chimney is a conventional sign indicating that Catholic Church cardinals have successfully chosen a new pontiff.

The cardinals had gathered in secrecy inside⁢ the Sistine Chapel as Wednesday at⁢ 4:30 ​PM local time to⁤ begin voting. The confidential assembly traditionally continues until an agreement is reached on electing a new pope,and no one is permitted to ‌leave before the selection is finalized.
