White smoke rose to the sky; new pope elected
White Smoke from the Sistine chapel in Vatican Signals Election of new Pope.
According to a report by the English section of “webangah News Agency” citing Mehr News Agency, Al Jazeera reported that white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican announced the election of a new pope.
The release of white smoke from the chapel’s chimney is a conventional sign indicating that Catholic Church cardinals have successfully chosen a new pontiff.
The cardinals had gathered in secrecy inside the Sistine Chapel as Wednesday at 4:30 PM local time to begin voting. The confidential assembly traditionally continues until an agreement is reached on electing a new pope, and no one is permitted to leave before the selection is finalized.
