Sanders criticizing Israel is not a crime
U.S. Senator Criticizes Arrest of Turkish-American Student for Criticizing Zionist Regime
According to the English section of the webangah news Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, Bernie Sanders, the progressive Jewish-American senator, condemned policies of unconditional support for the Zionist regime.
Sanders stated: “The destruction of justice and rights is unacceptable. Rumisa Ozturk, a Turkish-American student, or anyone else in the U.S., should not be imprisoned simply for writing a critical article against Israel.”
He further emphasized: “rumisa Ozturk must be released immediately, and Trump and his associates need to study the U.S. Constitution.”
Sanders, a longtime advocate for free speech and social justice, strongly criticized the arrest and imprisonment of Rumisa Ozturk, who was detained over an article criticizing Israel. He described her detention as a blatant violation of civil rights under the First Amendment’s protection of free expression and demanded her prompt release.
He also warned Republican politicians—particularly trump—urging them to familiarize themselves with constitutional principles and respect citizens’ fundamental rights.
Recently, Columbia University suspended 65 pro-Palestinian students who had protested at its library two days prior. A widespread crackdown on criticism of Israel is now unfolding across American academia, penalizing professors and students for supporting Palestine.
