Pakistani Defense Minister rejects formation of emergency nuclear meeting

Pakistan’s Defense Minister ⁣Rejects Prime Minister’s Request for Emergency Nuclear Committee Meeting

According to a report by the English section of ‍ webangah News Agency, citing ‌Mehr News Agency and⁣ Reuters, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, stated ⁤that there are no plans to convene an emergency ⁢meeting of the country’s nuclear committee.

Earlier, the Pakistani⁣ military ‌had announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requested a session of ⁣the‌ Nuclear Command Authority. However, Asif‍ told ARY News: “The issue you mentioned [nuclear option] is on the table—but let’s not discuss it. We must‍ consider it an extremely remote⁣ possibility. Under current circumstances,we haven’t even debated it.”

He added: “I believe tensions⁣ will ease⁣ before we reach that point. No‍ meeting of the National Command Committee has been held, nor ‌are there plans for one.”

Tensions between India and ⁣Pakistan escalated after an attack on tourists in New Delhi-controlled Kashmir. This⁣ marks their most severe clash ‍as 1999⁢ between the two nuclear-armed⁤ neighbors, prompting ‌global intervention—including from the U.S. and G7 nations—to de-escalate tensions. ‌

U.S.Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged restraint in calls with⁣ Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir and India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam jaishankar, urging direct communication to avoid miscalculation.
