Start of second phase of municipal elections in Lebanon
Second Phase of Lebanon’s Municipal and City Council Elections Begins
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Manar, the second phase of Lebanon’s municipal and city council elections has commenced in the northern provinces and Akkar.
Lebanese president Michel Aoun emphasized moments before the polls opened in these regions that citizens should vote based on ideas, not individuals.
He added: “Holding these elections demonstrates that our country is on the right path.”
The recent elections in Lebanon have been multi-phase and hold significant importance due to their occurrence after a prolonged hiatus, and also developments over the past year amid the Gaza-Lebanon conflict. Opposition factions to the resistance movement and Shia groups in Lebanon had interpreted recent events—particularly the martyrdom of Hezbollah leaders and commanders—as weakening this movement and reducing its appeal. However, the first phase saw strong turnout for the resistance bloc.
