Ukrainian President Says Kyiv Expects Russia too Confirm Full and Sustainable Ceasefire Starting Tomorrow (Monday)
According to a report by the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Kyiv Autonomous, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his country’s readiness to begin negotiations with Russia, stating that Kyiv expects Moscow to implement a full and sustainable ceasefire starting tomorrow.
Zelenskyy described the ceasefire as the first essential step toward ending the war, saying: “It is a good sign that the Russians have finally considered ending this war. The entire world has long awaited this moment. The first step toward ending any war is a ceasefire.”
He added: “Continued bloodshed serves no purpose, even if it lasts just one more day. we expect Russia to confirm a complete, lasting, and credible ceasefire starting tomorrow, May 12—and Ukraine is ready for talks.”
Zelenskyy’s remarks follow Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invitation for Kyiv to engage in direct negotiations in Istanbul beginning May 15. However, Putin has rejected calls for an extended ceasefire (an unconditional 30-day truce backed by the U.S. and EU).Putin also accused ukraine of violating a three-day truce marking “Victory Day,” alleging repeated attacks on Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk regions during this period.
