Qatar’s Lavish Gift to U.S. President Sparks Political Controversy
Reports about U.S. President Donald Trump’s intention to accept an expensive gift from Qatar—including a Boeing aircraft—have ignited heated debates in American political circles, according to the English section of the webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News agency adn Russia Al-Youm.
Jamie Raskin, the Democratic chairman of the U.S. House Oversight Committee, stated in a post: “Our laws are clear and cannot be ignored. Accepting gifts from a foreign government requires congressional approval. Even if the president intended to use it for just four years, it would ultimately be an illegal gift.”
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer emphasized: ”Nothing mocks the ‘America First’ slogan more than ‘Air Force One, a gift from Qatar.’ This isn’t just bribery—it’s high-level foreign influence with plusher seats.”
The Trump management had previously been accused of concealing over 100 foreign gifts during his first presidential term.
Yesterday, reports revealed that the Trump administration plans to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8 donated by Qatar’s royal family and equip it as the next U.S. presidential aircraft (Air Force One).
This aircraft is set to become one of the moast valuable gifts in U.S. government history, with an estimated worth of around $400 million.
