According to the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Reuters, an explosion occurred during the disposal of expired Indonesian military ammunition in West Java, killing at least 13 people.
Indonesian military officials stated that nine victims were civilians, while four were military personnel. Kristomei Sianturi, spokesperson for the Indonesian Armed Forces, said the cause of the incident is under investigation.
Authorities added that investigations will also examine why civilians were permitted near the blast site.
This marks the second explosion involving military ammunition in just over a year. A massive fire at a warehouse storing expired munitions near Jakarta in March 2024 triggered a chain of explosions.
