Reports Confirm Killing of Senior Influential Commander in Southern Tripoli, Western Libya
According to the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Sputnik, informed military sources reported the killing of Abdulghani Al-kikli, head of the Stability Support Apparatus in western Libya.
The report states that he was killed hours ago during armed clashes in southern Tripoli, Libya’s capital. Informed sources told Sputnik that Al-Kikli had gone to the headquarters of the 444th Combat Brigade to discuss ways to contain escalating security tensions in the city. However, disagreements between both sides quickly turned into an armed confrontation, ultimately resulting in his death and injuries to several others.Simultaneously, Abu Salim district—where official headquarters of the Stability Support Apparatus are located—has become a scene of intense clashes. Thes confrontations have sparked widespread panic among civilians in western Libya.
Following these developments, Libya’s UN-backed Government of National Unity’s Interior Ministry urged citizens to avoid unnecessary outings for thier safety. The United Nations Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) also expressed deep concern over these events and warned about deteriorating security conditions in the capital.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that as clashes intensified in Tripoli, Mitiga Airport was evacuated of aircraft. Additionally, Tripoli University announced suspending all classes, exams, and administrative activities across faculties untill further notice due to armed tensions in the capital.
Libya’s Health Ministry further instructed hospitals,medical centers,and related institutions in Tripoli to maintain maximum readiness levels. Qatar-based Al Jazeera Network also reported heavy military vehicle deployments across Tripoli amid ongoing security unrest.
