Russia is preparing the groundwork for negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, stated that Moscow is preparing the groundwork for negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul.
Peskov said on the matter: “Russia is preparing for talks expected to take place on Thursday.”
He added that the Kremlin currently has no plans to provide further details or comments regarding the anticipated meeting between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called on Kyiv on Sunday to resume direct negotiations—suspended since 2022—without preconditions. The two sides are scheduled to begin talks in istanbul on May 15.
Putin claimed that Russia has declared ceasefires multiple times, while Kyiv has consistently violated them—including a recent truce announced for the anniversary of Victory Day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his planned visit to Istanbul. Earlier, former U.S. President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to promptly accept Putin’s proposal.Prior to this, Zelenskyy had insisted that a 30-day ceasefire must be established between both sides before any negotiations with Moscow could proceed.
