Turkish President and NATO Chief Meet in Ankara, Discuss Russia-Ukraine War
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday at the Beştepe Presidential Complex in Ankara to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war, according to a report by turkey’s Anadolu Agency cited by Mehr News Agency.
The meeting, held without media presence as announced by Turkey’s Presidential Communications Directorate, focused on Turkey-NATO relations, developments in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and regional and global issues.Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to NATO, stating that Ankara would reassume command of NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeeping mission. He emphasized that Turkey expects allied cooperation in combating terrorism and pledged to strengthen NATO despite domestic and international challenges.
The Turkish president noted Ankara’s intensified efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war through diplomacy, including meetings with leaders of both nations. He also reiterated Turkey’s support for a thorough ceasefire in Ukraine, stressing that NATO must not become party to the conflict and urging no missed opportunities for peace.
