Macron supports ban on hijab in sports competitions
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and anadolu, Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has expressed support for banning the hijab in sports competitions.
In an interview with TF1 network,Macron stated: “I support the Olympic Charter,which prohibits wearing any religious symbols during competitions.”
Distinguishing between athletes’ training in sports facilities and their participation in competitions, he added that decisions regarding bans on hijabs and head coverings fall under the authority of each federation.
The French president called for “pragmatism,” noting that the country’s constitution does not prohibit the hijab. He emphasized: “There is no place for religious symbols in competitive spaces.”
Macron also addressed questions about holding referendums on issues such as immigration, pension reforms, euthanasia, and taxation. He endorsed the idea of conducting multiple referendums in the coming months.
“The idea is to consult our citizens on major economic and social reforms,” he said.”Between now and June, the government will propose several referendums.”
The president opposed a referendum to repeal pension reforms raising the retirement age to 64 and dismissed such a measure on immigration as “ineffective.” however, he did not rule out organizing referendums on euthanasia in cases of “medical deadlock” or public finances.
