Lebanese president absent from Baghdad meeting

The Lebanese newspaper Al-Liwaa announced that the President of Lebanon will not attend the Arab Summit meeting‌ next Saturday⁢ in ⁣Baghdad.

The English section of Webangah News Agency,citing Mehr News ⁣Agency ⁤and Russia ⁤Al-Youm,reported⁤ that the Lebanese newspaper ‌Al-Liwaa stated Michel Aoun,the President of Lebanon,will not travel to Iraq for⁤ the Arab Summit next Saturday due to various reasons,including his attendance at the inauguration ceremony ‍of the new Pope in Rome.

The Lebanese newspaper noted that Najib Mikati,Lebanon’s Prime Minister,will depart on Friday alongside the country’s Foreign Minister and a Lebanese delegation to attend the Arab Summit in Baghdad on saturday,May 27.

The ‌report also highlighted that Michel Aoun had previously participated in an emergency Arab Summit meeting ⁤in Cairo and found no new critical issue compelling his presence at the Baghdad‍ summit.Consequently, he agreed with Najib Mikati to represent Lebanon ​instead.

Baghdad will host leaders of Arab nations on Saturday—an event ⁤taking place in Iraq after 13 years. Accordingly,the Iraqi government has sent invitations to heads of Arab states.
