EU approves 17th sanctions package against Russia
According to a report by the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News agency and TASS, an informed source in the EU’s Permanent Representatives Committee stated that the bloc has approved the 17th sanctions package against Moscow.
The source added that these new sanctions must also be ratified by EU foreign ministers during their meeting on 20 May.
Earlier reports indicated that the 17th sanctions package targets around 60 Russian individuals and entities, their partners, as well as between 50 to 150 oil tankers transporting Moscow’s crude.
The EU’s 16th sanctions package against Moscow took effect on 24 February 2025. The new measures come as Russian President Vladimir Putin, despite Ukraine’s non-compliance wiht the “Victory Day” ceasefire, recently called for direct negotiations with Kyiv to resolve the war diplomatically and revive the stalled 2022 Istanbul talks.
