Colombia agrees with China to join Belt and Road Initiative
According to the English section of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Mayadeen, Xi Jinping, President of China, met with his Colombian counterpart Gustavo Petro this morning at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The visit aims to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries and coincides with Colombia’s participation in the fourth ministerial meeting of the China-Latin America Forum.
The meeting witnessed the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement, formally solidifying Colombia’s accession to the Belt and Road Initiative.
Strategic Cooperation Marking Diplomatic Anniversary
The Chinese President noted that this year marks the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Colombia, emphasizing that china views its ties with Colombia from a long-term strategic perspective.
He added that both nations should consolidate mutual political trust and enhance strategic communication.
Colombia Officially Joins Belt and Road Initiative
In a symbolic and meaningful move, both parties signed a cooperation framework under the belt and Road initiative, reflecting peak economic convergence between them.
The Chinese President confirmed his country’s willingness to import more high-quality colombian products while encouraging Chinese companies to invest in Colombia—especially in infrastructure, renewable energy, and digital economy sectors.
