Border security focus of General Qaani meeting with Iraqi national security adviser in Baghdad
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Iraqi media, Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, hosted Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, Commander of the IRGC Quds Force, in Baghdad on Wednesday.
Al-Araji stated in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account that during the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening Iran-Iraq relations, joint efforts to secure borders, and reviewing progress on implementing terms of the security agreement between the two countries.
He also emphasized the importance of accomplished negotiations between Washington and Tehran and urged all parties to commit to dialog and de-escalation for lasting regional stability.
The security agreement, signed by Iran and Iraq in March 2023 (Esfand 1401), prohibits anti-Iranian groups from using Iraqi soil—particularly the Kurdistan Region—for activities against Tehran.
