Border security focus of General Qaani meeting with Iraqi national security adviser in Baghdad

Iraq’s National Security Advisor and the⁣ Commander of the IRGC ‌Quds ‍Force ‌met in Baghdad.

According to the English section of webangah News ⁢Agency, ⁢citing Mehr News Agency and Iraqi media, Qasim al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, hosted Brigadier General Esmail Qaani, Commander of⁢ the IRGC⁢ Quds Force, in Baghdad on⁣ Wednesday.

Al-Araji stated in a post on his X ⁣(formerly Twitter) account that during the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening Iran-Iraq relations, joint efforts to secure borders, and reviewing⁤ progress on implementing terms of⁤ the security agreement between⁤ the two countries.

He also emphasized the importance of accomplished negotiations between Washington and Tehran and urged all‌ parties to commit to dialog and de-escalation for lasting ​regional stability.

The security ​agreement, signed​ by Iran and Iraq⁤ in March 2023 ⁣(Esfand 1401), prohibits anti-Iranian ‍groups from⁢ using Iraqi​ soil—particularly the ⁣Kurdistan Region—for ⁢activities against Tehran.
