Axios claim about Trump written proposal to Tehran in fourth round of talks
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Axios, this american website reported—quoting a U.S. official and two sources directly familiar with the negotiations between Washington and Tehran—that the management of Donald Trump, the U.S. president, offered Tehran a “nuclear agreement” proposal during the fourth round of indirect talks.
The website alleged that this was the first time since negotiations began between Tehran and Washington that Steve Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy for West Asia, had submitted a written proposal to Iranian officials.
Axios claimed that Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister who heads Tehran’s negotiating team, conveyed the mentioned proposal to consult with supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, President Masoud Pezeshkian, and other senior officials in Tehran.
Axios further asserted that according to minutes viewed by its reporters and confirmed by an informed source, Witkoff described America’s offer as “appealing and very substantial” during his report to the UN Security Council last Wednesday but stressed that negotiations required further progress.
The source claimed Witkoff presented this proposal to Araghchi in oman. Witkoff reportedly expressed encouragement over the outcomes of these fourth-round talks.
Trump—who was on an official trip to the Middle East—stated in Riyadh on Tuesday that he had extended an “olive branch (peace offer)” to Iran but warned it would not remain open indefinitely: “Now is their time to decide.”
The fourth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and america took place on May 10 in Muscat.
