US and Syria diplomatic talks in Turkey
According to the English section of webangah news Agency, citing mehr News Agency and Anadolu Agency, amid recent regional developments, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held official talks with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, on Turkish soil.
The meeting followed U.S. President Donald Trump’s discussion with Ahmed al-Sharaa, leader of Syria’s terrorist regime, in Riyadh.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State department stated that Rubio emphasized Washington’s new approach toward Damascus during the talks and announced his country’s readiness to ease sanctions pressure to stabilize Syria.
Rubio welcomed efforts by syria’s Jolani regime to pursue peace with Israel and reduce iran’s influence in the country while demanding clarity on the fate of missing or deceased American citizens in Syria and an end to chemical weapons use.
He also described protecting human rights for all ethnicities and religions as a basic principle for normalizing bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, during a speech at an investment conference in Saudi Arabia, the U.S. president announced his management’s decision to lift sanctions against Damascus—an action he said aims to aid reconstruction and reintegrate Syria into the international community.
“This decision was made after consultations with leaders from Turkey and Saudi Arabia,” Trump declared, “with the ultimate goal of creating conditions for Syria’s renewed prosperity.”
Sources indicate that the U.S. president has also urged Syria’s interim government to join regional peace agreements and take steps toward resolving the crisis of palestinian refugees in Syria.
