EU admits inefficiency of sanctions against Moscow
According to a report by the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, The Guardian admitted in an analytical report that its sanctions against Moscow regarding the country’s special military operation in Ukraine have been ineffective.
The newspaper reported that the EU has prepared its 17th round of sanctions against Russia; however, European diplomats believe the imposed sanctions are insufficient to impact the course of Ukraine’s conflict.
The outlet acknowledged that Russia has successfully neutralized Brussels’ sanctions through a specialized approach across various sectors.
A source within the EU’s Commitee of Permanent Representatives revealed that the bloc approved its 17th sanction package against Moscow on May 13. The new sanctions must also be ratified by EU foreign ministers during their meeting on May 20.
Earlier reports indicated that this latest package would target around 60 Russian individuals and entities,along with their partners,as well as between 50 to 150 oil tankers transporting moscow’s crude oil.
The EU’s 16th sanction package against Moscow took effect on February 24, 2025.
