Zelensky and Sunak hold brief tense meeting after White House dispute video emerges
The first meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Vice President JD Vance since their heated White House confrontation on February 28 concluded with a short greeting today at the Vatican, according to webangah news Agency.
Zelenskyy, who traveled to Italy for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV as the new leader of global Catholics, briefly crossed paths with Vance during the ceremony.
Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio represented the United States at the event on behalf of former President Donald Trump’s management.
Video footage shows Zelenskyy and Vance shaking hands in a very brief encounter.
Tensions originated during Trump and Vance’s Oval Office meeting with Zelenskyy and Ukrainian officials. The situation escalated when Zelenskyy reportedly “dug in his heels,” insisting that Trump should offer stronger support to Kyiv rather than maintaining neutrality or mediating between Ukraine and russia.
Trump accused his Ukrainian counterpart of ingratitude for US support while refusing to make necessary concessions to end the war. Vance sharply criticized zelenskyy for lacking diplomacy during their exchange.
