Mossad carries out covert operation in Syria
The office of Israeli Prime Minister benjamin Netanyahu announced that 2,500 documents and images related to Eli Cohen,a spy for the regime, were transferred to occupied territories during an intelligence operation by Mossad in Syria, according to webangah news agency.
Mossad stated the transfer of Cohen’s documents occurred during a complex covert operation conducted with “a strategic partner service.” The intelligence agency provided no further details.
Hebrew-language media reported these documents pertaining to Cohen had been held by Syrian security forces for several decades. Cohen was publicly hanged in Damascus’ Marjeh Square in 1965.
Among the recovered materials was Cohen’s will, written hours before his arrest as a spy in Syria.
In January 1962, Cohen first entered Damascus under Mossad orders using a false identity as a Syrian businessman to establish extensive connections with the country’s political and military officials.
