Trump Says India Will Soon Lift Tariffs on US Goods
According to webangah News Agency, US President Donald Trump stated that India is ready to reduce its import tariffs on American goods by 100% in the near future.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said: ”India… is one of the countries with the highest taxes or tariffs. They make doing business nearly unfeasible.”
Trump added: “Did you know they’re willing to cut their tariffs on (imports from) America by 100%? Yes, this will happen soon.”
The US imposed 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from India starting March 12 without prior consultation with New Delhi.
Washington responded to India’s request regarding these tariffs by stating that the export policy adjustments were made to protect US national security.
Bloomberg previously reported that the US and India have finalized trade terms in negotiations for a new agreement expected to boost bilateral trade volume and expand supply chain cooperation between the two nations.
On April 9,Trump decided to suspend heavy tariffs he had announced earlier on April 2 for a 90-day period. this move was intended to give countries seeking trade agreements with the US time for negotiations.
According to governance officials, about 100 countries have expressed readiness for negotiations, putting significant pressure on the US trade negotiation team to reach agreements within this short timeframe.
