Iraqi Parliament Security Committee Member Criticizes Continued Turkish Military Presence
webangah News Agency reports that Mehdi Taqi al-Amiri, a member of Iraq’s Parliamentary Security and Defence Committee, has condemned Turkey’s ongoing military operations inside Iraqi territory as a direct threat to national security.
Al-Amiri stated: “After the dissolution of the PKK, there is no justification left for Turkey’s presence in Iraq. Clear and practical solutions must be presented to wholly remove Turkish forces from Iraqi soil.”
The parliamentarian emphasized that Iraq’s Foreign Minister should take an active role in defending national sovereignty, adding: ”There should be no diplomatic niceties when dealing with this sensitive matter.”
Turkish troops have maintained dozens of bases inside Iraq for years.
