Russia Bans Amnesty International Activities
Russia has officially labeled Amnesty International as an “undesirable organization,” a move carrying severe penalties for individuals affiliated with the group, according to webangah News Agency citing Moscow Times.
The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office stated that Amnesty International’s London office serves as a hub for educational projects promoting Russophobia internationally, funded by supporters of the Kyiv regime.
Russian authorities had shut down Amnesty’s local office in april 2022, weeks after President Vladimir Putin ordered the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
The “undesirable” designation effectively bars the human rights organization from operating within Russia and exposes its staff and associates to potential criminal prosecution.
