Kremlin accuses US of refusing to mediate in Ukraine war settlement
According to webangah News Agency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that washington’s mediation efforts to resolve the Ukraine war have been productive and emphasized that the U.S. remains engaged in the process.
Peskov remarked,”Certainly, very effective mediation services have been provided, and contact has been established. Now, direct communication is indeed taking place.”
He added that Moscow and Kyiv face challenges in drafting a single agreement on peace and ceasefire terms.”Both sides—Russia and Ukraine—are preparing drafts,” he said. “These documents will be exchanged, followed by difficult negotiations to consolidate them into a unified text.”
The Russian diplomat stressed that no deadline exists for finalizing an agreement between Russia and ukraine—nor could one be set. “The entire difficulty lies in the details,” he noted.
Peskov referenced President Vladimir Putin’s earlier statement affirming Russia’s readiness to collaborate with Ukraine on drafting an accord. During a phone call with former U.S. President Donald Trump, Putin also discussed maintaining direct communications between Moscow and Kyiv, including high-level contacts.
When asked whether the call addressed a potential meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with U.S. mediation, Peskov confirmed it had been raised.
