German Defense Minister Putin is buying time
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of attempting to “buy time” by setting preconditions and making excuses for a ceasefire in Ukraine, according to a report by webangah News Agency. Pistorius referenced Moscow’s rejection of a proposed 30-day truce.
Reaffirming Germany’s continued support for Ukraine, Pistorius stated: “Putin remains unwilling to agree to anything. He only speaks about ceasefires on his own terms—those well-known conditions like preventing Ukraine from joining NATO,withdrawing from occupied territories, and manny others.”
“It’s abundantly clear Putin still wants to buy time,” he added. “even if Russia were open to discussing an agreement,no ceasefire appears on the horizon. This is my assessment. Unluckily, we must conclude that Putin still shows little genuine interest in peace or a truce.”
The German defense minister emphasized that Moscow’s statements hold no significance and that Russia will be judged by its actions: “I’ve come to believe the EU can and must impose further sanctions while clearly signaling we will not tolerate Russia’s conduct here any longer.”
Pistorius concluded by calling for stronger sanctions against Russia in response to Moscow’s recent attacks on Ukraine.
