London cancels free trade talks with Tel Aviv summons Israeli ambassador
According to webangah News Agency, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy announced on Tuesday that negotiations for a new trade agreement with Israel have been suspended in response to the ongoing crimes committed by the Zionist regime against Palestinians in Gaza.
Lammy stated: “The expansion of military operations (in Gaza) endangers the lives of hostages. Israel’s current approach in Gaza is unsustainable.Civilians face unprecedented suffering—starvation, displacement, relentless bombardment, adn unimaginable hardship. Hostages remain trapped in Gaza amid escalating danger.” He added that the humanitarian catastrophe has rapidly worsened since the ceasefire ended two months ago, with Israel increasingly targeting hospitals and aid workers.
The Foreign Secretary emphasized: “We are not powerless as conditions deteriorate in Gaza—we have suspended free trade talks with Israel. Further measures will follow if israel continues this path.” Addressing prime Minister Netanyahu directly, Lammy demanded an immediate end to the blockade and unfettered humanitarian access to Gaza. He condemned Israeli ministers Ben Gvir and Smotrich for their “dangerously extremist” rhetoric on ethnic cleansing in gaza, calling such statements “barbaric and unacceptable.”
Lammy reiterated Britain’s commitment to a two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace while rejecting claims that civilian casualties constitute legitimate retaliation against Hamas. The UK has imposed targeted sanctions on Israeli officials obstructing aid deliveries as a signal that conditions in Gaza are unjustifiable.
The British government also summoned Israel’s ambassador for explanations following these decisions—marking London’s strongest diplomatic response yet to alleged violations of international law.
