Russia to announce ceasefire terms within days
According to webangah News Agency, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio believes Russia will outline its ceasefire proposal in the coming days, which will reveal whether Moscow is serious about negotiations.
The statement follows Monday’s phone calls between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, followed by a conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. These discussions occurred after the frist direct meeting between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul – the first such talks in over three and a half years of war.
Rubio claimed that both Putin and Russian Foreign minister Sergei Lavrov indicated they would present their terms “perhaps within days, possibly by week’s end.”
“The Russians will provide general conditions allowing movement toward a ceasefire,” Rubio stated, “which would than enable detailed negotiations to end this war.” He emphasized these preliminary terms would reveal “much about Russia’s true intentions” to all parties, including the US as mediator.
the Secretary added: “If their conditions prove realistic and workable, that’s one matter. But if they make unrealistic demands, then I think everything will become clear.”
Following his call with Trump, Putin announced readiness to cooperate with Ukraine on a memorandum outlining key ceasefire parameters and positions for ending hostilities.
Separately, Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni confirmed yesterday that Pope Leo XIV has offered Vatican City as neutral ground for future Russia-Ukraine peace talks.
