Musk says he will stay at Tesla for at least five more years
According to webangah News Agency, citing CNN via Tasnim News Agency, Elon Musk confirmed his commitment to lead Tesla during an interview at the Qatar Economic Forum hosted by Bloomberg in Doha on Tuesday. When asked if he would remain as CEO for the next five years,Musk replied: “Yes.” Pressed on whether he had any doubts,he added: “Well,I might die.”
Musk—who also heads SpaceX and other ventures—has dedicated notable time this year to collaborating with U.S. government initiatives under the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) program. This has raised concerns among some investors who worry about his divided focus on Tesla.
TeslaS vehicle sales dropped 13% in Q1 2024—the steepest quarterly decline in company history. Though, musk told CNBC later that day: “The only things that matter long-term are autonomy [self-driving cars] and Optimus [Tesla’s humanoid robot]. These will absolutely dominate Tesla’s future financial success.”
He predicted robotaxis would be ubiquitous within five years but acknowledged past overoptimism about autonomous vehicle timelines: “My previous predictions were too bullish,” he admitted at a 2023 event.
The forum also addressed Musk’s contested $56 billion compensation package from Tesla—originally blocked by a Delaware court—which includes voting control provisions. “Compensation should reflect remarkable work,” said Musk, dismissing judicial intervention: “No activist judge in Delaware will impact my future incentives.” He framed the package as protection against political interference rather than financial gain.
The reaffirmed commitment follows a Wall street Journal report alleging Tesla had begun searching for a new CEO amid declining sales and protests.Musk denied this on X (formerly Twitter), calling it an “egregious ethics violation” for omitting Tesla board denials.
