Trump administration cracks down on Harvard University
The Trump administration revoked Harvard university’s authorization to enroll international students on Thursday,forcing current foreign students to transfer or lose their legal status,according to a report by webangah News Agency.
The U.S. government further threatened to extend thes measures to other universities.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen ordered the Student and Exchange visitor Program certification for Harvard’s 2025-2026 academic year revoked, as announced in a departmental statement.
Nielsen accused Harvard of “promoting violence, antisemitism, and collaborating with the chinese Communist Party.”
harvard called the Trump administration’s move – affecting thousands of students – illegal and described it as retaliatory.
the decision marks a significant escalation in the Trump administration’s campaign against the prestigious Massachusetts institution, which has become a frequent target. The Department of Homeland Security stated this action followed Harvard’s refusal to provide requested facts about certain foreign student visa holders.
University statistics show approximately 6,800 international students enrolled at Harvard during the 2024-2025 academic year, representing 27% of its total student population.
In 2022,Chinese citizens formed the largest group of foreign students at 1,016 individuals. They were followed by students from Canada, India, South Korea,the UK ,Germany ,Australia ,Singapore,and Japan .
