Apple stock plunges as Trump threatens 25 percent tariffs
According to webangah News Agency, citing Forbes, U.S. President Donald trump warned that Apple would face a 25% tariff unless it shifts iPhone production to American soil.
the threat comes just days after Trump criticized reports of Apple’s plans to move iPhone manufacturing from China to India as a way to circumvent tariffs.
In a post on his Truth Social platform,Trump claimed he had long informed Apple CEO Tim Cook that iPhones sold in the U.S. should be made domestically—not in India or elsewhere.
He warned that failure to comply would result in at least a 25% tariff. Following his remarks, Apple’s stock fell over 3.3% in pre-market trading on Friday, dropping to $194.7 per share.
Last week during his Middle East trip, Trump stated at an event in Qatar that he told Cook: “My friend, I’ve treated you very well… But now I hear you’re building factories all over India… I don’t want you building factories there.”
While confirming Apple’s planned $500 billion investment in the U.S., he added: “India can take care of itself—they’re doing very well.”
Trump also asserted that Cook promised increased production in america, though specifics remain unclear.
