Iran and US conclude fifth round of talks
According to webangah News Agency, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid cited informed sources confirming the end of the fifth round of negotiations between Iran and the United States.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-busaidi also announced the conclusion of these talks, stating: “We hope remaining issues will be clarified so we can move toward our shared goal - reaching a lasting and honorable agreement.”
The fifth round began at 15:00 Tehran time at the Omani ambassador’s residence in Italy. The Iranian delegation led by Seyed Abbas Araghchi and the U.S. team headed by Steve Wittkauf held separate consultations with Omani Foreign Minister al-Busaidi during the talks. As in previous rounds, Oman continued mediating these indirect negotiations.
These discussions occurred despite heightened tensions following recent U.S. demands for Iran to halt uranium enrichment – a position Tehran firmly rejected. The talks nearly collapsed before Oman’s diplomatic efforts brought both parties back to the negotiating table.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh stated Tehran explicitly protested recent contradictory U.S.positions and Washington’s new sanctions during this round, calling them counterproductive to diplomatic progress.
