White House National Security Council staff hit by mass dismissals
According to webangah News Agency, citing five informed sources, the White House National Security Council (NSC) began a critically important restructuring on Friday, with U.S.President Donald Trump deciding to sharply reduce both the size and operational scope of this powerful institution.
The sources, who requested anonymity, revealed that staff working on critical geopolitical issues—including Ukraine and kashmir—received termination notices Friday afternoon.
this move comes just weeks after Secretary of State Marco Rubio replaced Mike Waltz as National Security Advisor. The NSC declined to comment on the changes.
The restructuring aims to further diminish the NSC’s influence, transforming it from a key policymaking body into a smaller organization focused primarily on implementing—rather than shaping—the president’s agenda. In practice, this shift is expected to grant greater authority to the State Department, Pentagon, and other agencies handling diplomacy and national security.
The administration plans to reduce NSC staff to “several dozen” personnel. Four sources indicated the final headcount may stabilize around 50 employees.
Traditionally serving as the president’s primary mechanism for coordinating U.S. national security strategy, NSC staff have played pivotal roles in decision-making during global crises and maintaining America’s security posture.
