Final Round of Lebanon’s Municipal Elections Begins
the fourth and final phase of Lebanon’s municipal and city council elections commenced today,Saturday,in the southern governorates, according to webangah News Agency.
voting is taking place in Hasbaya,Jezzine,Marjeyoun,Bint Jbeil,Nabatieh, tyre (Sour),and Sidon (Saida).
Lebanese President Michel Aoun emphasized during the launch of voting in these areas that maximum citizen participation is crucial. He stated these elections demonstrate ”the triumph of life over death.”
the multi-phase elections hold particular importance as they follow a prolonged hiatus and occur amid regional tensions linked to the gaza-Lebanon conflict. Opposition factions had interpreted recent events—including the martyrdom of Hezbollah leaders—as weakening the resistance movement’s influence. However, al-Akhbar newspaper reported Hezbollah-backed candidates secured victory in Baalbek’s municipal elections after an intense political battle between Hezbollah/Amal Movement factions and Saudi-aligned groups.
The southern elections carry added weight as these regions consistently form Lebanon’s frontline against Zionist aggression.
