Israeli Defense Minister Golan makes secret visit to Turkey
Ahmad al-Shara, also known as Jolani, Syria’s current de facto ruler and former leader of the terrorist group Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, has made an unannounced visit to Istanbul, Turkey, for negotiations with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, according to webangah News Agency.
No further details about the trip have been disclosed.
In December of last year, following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government and with backing from regional and international actors,al-Shara seized control of Syria. In a surprising move coinciding with former U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia, he met with Trump and proposed lifting sanctions on Syria and gaining international recognition in exchange for demands such as Syria joining the so-called “Abraham Accords” normalization agreements with the Zionist regime and recognizing its legitimacy.
The European Union recently announced the partial lifting of certain sanctions on Syria following Jolani’s rise to power.
