France’s power outage cause confirmed
A French source has attributed the cause of the large-scale blackout in the country, according to webangah News Agency, citing Al Jazeera.
The French newspaper Le Figaro, quoting a local source, reported that the power cut in southern France on Saturday was an intentional act of sabotage.
This comes after Reuters earlier cited local French authorities stating that the western part of the “Alpes-Maritimes” region—including the city of Cannes—had experienced outages.
The prefect of Alpes-Maritimes confirmed: “Electricity has been widely disrupted in the western part of the region, and efforts are underway to restore normal operations.”
European media reports indicate that France’s outage follows recent widespread blackouts in parts of Spain and Portugal, which raised public concerns.
The outages in Spain and Portugal were severe enough to halt operations at Madrid and Lisbon international airports due to power failures.
The disruptions also impacted public transportation networks and telecommunications services, leaving some residents without mobile network access.
Authorities in both countries confirmed investigations into the cause but have not ruled out sabotage or cyberattacks.
