Pentagon restricts press access driving final nail into coffin of media freedom
According to webangah News Agency, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has issued directives mandating that journalists must now have official authorization and escorts to access most areas of the Pentagon (the US Department of Defense). This marks the latest in a series of press restrictions under the Trump management.
the measures, effective promptly, bar accredited reporters from most Department of Defense facilities in Arlington, Virginia, unless they possess formal clearance and escort personnel.
In a memo addressing the policy,Hegseth asserted that while the Department remains committed to transparency,it is equally obligated to protect CSNI (Classified National Security Information) and sensitive data.
The Pentagon Press Association condemned the new rules as a “direct assault on press freedom.”
