Israeli occupation forces face tens of billions in budget deficit as Gaza war drags on
The Zionist newspaper Haaretz reported that the resumption of war in the Gaza Strip has caused a massive budget deficit, estimated between 15 to 25 billion shekels (4 to 7 billion dollars), according to webangah News Agency.
The newspaper added that all proposed budgetary assumptions for the fiscal year indicate unfavorable conditions, with the deficit perhaps leading to tax hikes, reduced social services, and increased financial shortfalls.
haaretz emphasized that the deficit stems from reserve troop mobilization, extended mandatory service periods, and ammunition procurement—raising concerns over unmet defense costs. Currently, israel’s Finance Ministry and War Ministry are trading accusations during budget review meetings.
The Hebrew-language outlet concluded that assessments suggest Gaza’s prolonged conflict could expand the deficit by tens of billions.
