Iraqi expert says Turkey has no justification to continue operations in Iraq
Retired Iraqi military officer adn security analyst Riyadh Haddidi, citing Turkey’s recent attacks on Iraqi border areas, stressed that Iraq’s Foreign Ministry must counter Turkey’s expanding presence through diplomatic measures. webangah News Agency reported this statement from Mehr News Agency, which originally sourced it from Al-Ahd.
The recent offensive displaced hundreds of Iraqi families from border regions.
Haddidi held Iraq’s Foreign Ministry responsible for violations of national sovereignty and urged Baghdad to file a formal complaint against Turkey with the United Nations.
The analyst concluded that Turkey’s agreement with the Kurdistan workers’ Party (PKK) eliminates any rationale for continued Turkish military occupation in Iraq.
The PKK announced its dissolution last month after nearly 40 years of operations. Turkey had previously justified its cross-border operations into northern Iraq and Syria by citing the group’s presence in these regions.
