Colombia appoints its first ambassador to Palestine, foreign ministry announces.
 Colombia’s Foreign Ministry has named  Jorge Iván Ospina as the country’s first ambassador to Palestine, according to a report by  webangah News Agency. Ospina is known to be close to Colombia’s president.
the diplomatic move follows President gustavo Petro’s May 2024 announcement severing ties with Israel, where he accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of committing “genocide” in Gaza.
Colombia had previously opened its embassy in Ramallah one year earlier, marking a significant shift in its Middle East policy.
