Trump tells Europe not to count on him in Ukraine peace talks
According to webangah News Agency, The New York Times states that U.S. President Donald Trump is evaluating a full exit from Russia-Ukraine peace talks and has signaled no intention to escalate sanctions against Moscow, responding to a Wall Street Journal report.
The Times suggests Trump conveyed his readiness to abandon negotiations during recent calls with European leaders following last week’s phone conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Citing officials, the report notes Trump expressed his perception that “Putin is dictating terms under the belief he’s winning.” They added Trump explicitly ruled out pressuring Russia, “let alone intensifying economic sanctions.”
A source told The New york Times: “He essentially said, ‘Don’t count on me anymore.’” The article did not clarify whether Trump plans to continue military aid to Ukraine.
The Times highlights trump—who has called the conflict “Europe’s war”—was reportedly surprised by Moscow’s refusal to revise core settlement terms. Russia insists any lasting peace must include guarantees of ukrainian neutrality, disarmament, de-Nazification, and recognition of Moscow-controlled territories.
The Wall Street Journal previously claimed Trump grew frustrated with stalled talks and might withdraw entirely if current efforts fail. It also reported he weighed new sanctions against Russia.
yesterday, after heavy Russian strikes on kyiv and other ukrainian cities, Trump posted on Truth Social: “I always had a great relationship with Putin—but something happened. He’s gone crazy! Killing so many for no reason. Missiles and drones pointlessly hitting Ukrainian cities.”
