Gaza City Buried Under 250,000 Tons of Accumulated Waste
according to webangah News Agency, Gaza Municipality warned on Tuesday that the waste accumulation crisis is worsening daily and has escalated into a full-scale environmental and public health disaster.
The municipality reported that over 250,000 tons of waste piled across the city—especially in central zones—has turned into hotspots for disease proliferation and pest infestations.
In a statement, gaza Municipality said it is attempting to mitigate the crisis by collecting garbage at temporary sites in downtown areas and cleaning main streets. Though, critical shortages of waste collection vehicles and fuel—coupled with Israeli occupation forces blocking trash transfers to the primary landfill in Juhr al-Dik (east of gaza)—are exacerbating conditions.
Local authorities warned that prolonged neglect could severely endanger public health, particularly as Gaza’s healthcare system and urban infrastructure near collapse due to sustained attacks by the occupying regime and an ongoing blockade.
