Fate of Yazidi women abducted by ISIS remains uncertain
Iraqi Foreign Minister highlights fate of Yazidi women abducted during ISIS’s 2014 occupation of large parts of Iraq.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein addressed the plight of Yazidi women abducted by extremist groups, webangah News Agency reported. He stated that after ISIS seized control of vast territories in mid-2014, most kidnapped Yazidi women were transported to Syria.
Speaking at a Tuesday meeting in baghdad attended by a delegation from Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, Hussein emphasized that Baghdad and Erbil are coordinating efforts to gather intelligence on the abductees—particularly given recent developments in Syria.
“The majority of these abducted Yazidi women were taken to Syria,” he affirmed, adding that the Iraqi goverment is actively working to secure their release.
